Ingot moulds for continuous casting are produced in Europa Metalli's Fornaci di Barga plant, which is located 35 km from Lucca and 100 km from Florence. The plant was built in 1915, and since 1993 has been operating under a Quality Management System which is certified in accordance with Standard ISO 9001:2000 |
The production of mould plates starts with the casting of the selected alloy, which is then die-cast in brams. The brams are hot-rolled or forged, and then cold-rolled . After an ultrasound , test, which must, needless to say, be passed 100%, the next step involves mechanical processing with high-precision control equipment so as to meet the geometrical tolerances specified in the construction projects. In this phase Europa Metalli can also weld the steel studs, when such a step is called for in the technical specifications. Here processing usually ends. If required by customers, the mould can additionally be coated with a protective layer of zinc. The mould plate is now ready to be tested. The size test certificate is packed together with the material. |
